Abstract
This article examines the role of phraseological units in the formation and development of sports terminology in modern English. The study analyzes the semantic, structural, and pragmatic characteristics of phraseological expressions widely used in sports discourse. Particular attention is paid to the linguistic functions of idiomatic units, metaphorical constructions, and fixed expressions in sports communication, media discourse, and professional commentary. The research demonstrates that phraseological units significantly enrich sports terminology by enhancing emotional expressiveness, communicative efficiency, and cultural representation. The article also investigates the influence of sports phraseology on everyday language and intercultural communication. The findings indicate that phraseological units serve not only as linguistic tools but also as carriers of national culture, collective experience, and social identity within sports discourse.References
