Abstract

This article examines the formation and development of metacognitive abilities in students, driven by the growing importance of independent and self-regulated learning in the context of the widespread implementation of digital technologies. The digital transformation of education has affected all components of the educational process—including learning objectives, content, teaching methods, and instructional tools—thereby significantly changing the nature of learning. Under these conditions, the development of metacognition in primary school students has become particularly important, as metacognitive processes such as planning, monitoring, and reflection are essential for the successful and conscious acquisition of knowledge in the digital learning environment of the twenty-first century. Developing these skills from the very beginning of schooling provides a solid foundation for future academic success and lifelong learning.
