Abstract

This article analyzes the criteria and indicators for assessing pragmatic competence in English language lessons. The role of pragmatic competence in the structure of communicative competence, its main components, and its significance in the process of teaching a foreign language are highlighted. During the study, modern scientific approaches to evaluating pragmatic competence were studied, and key evaluation criteria such as communicative compatibility, quality of speech act execution, socio-cultural compatibility, and strategic competence were identified. The possibilities of role-playing games, discourse completion tests, observation, and portfolio-based assessment methods in determining pragmatic competence are also analyzed.
