Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of color-coding techniques in helping Uzbek students memorize German grammatical gender (Genus). Since the Uzbek language does not contain grammatical gender categories, learners often face difficulties in distinguishing and correctly using the German articles der, die, and das. The research employed a quasi-experimental design involving 40 university students at the A1–A2 level, divided into control and experimental groups. The experimental group learned noun genders through a structured color-coding system, while the control group used traditional memorization methods. The findings revealed that students exposed to color-coded instruction demonstrated significantly higher improvement in accuracy, recall speed, and confidence. The study concludes that color-coding reduces cognitive load, enhances memory retention, and creates a more engaging and less stressful learning environment. Therefore, this technique can serve as an effective and practical pedagogical tool in teaching German grammar to Uzbek learners.
