Abstract

This article provides a systematic overview of the linguocognitive approach as applied to media discourse research, examining its theoretical foundations, core methodological tools, and practical applications. Drawing on conceptual metaphor theory, frame semantics, conceptual integration theory, and prototype theory, the study outlines a coherent methodological framework for investigating how meaning is cognitively constructed and communicated in media texts. Analysis of a reference corpus of 80 English- language newspaper articles identifies five dominant metaphorical source domains and three dominant frames structuring political and economic media discourse. The article argues that the linguocognitive approach offers distinctive analytical advantages by linking surface linguistic choices to underlying cognitive structures and ideological formations, and concludes by identifying future directions for multimodal and computational extensions of the framework.
