Abstract

This study examines reader reception of linguocultural realia in translation within the English–Uzbek context. Linguocultural realia, as culture-bound lexical units, pose challenges not only for translators but also for readers, who may lack relevant cultural knowledge. The research aims to identify how translation strategies influence reader comprehension of such elements in literary texts. An empirical approach was used, involving a questionnaire administered to respondents with different linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Participants interpreted translated realia and evaluated their clarity. The findings show that generalization and omission reduce comprehension, while descriptive translation and partial retention improve understanding. However, deeper cultural meanings are often not fully recognized by readers.
