Abstract

This article explores the multifaceted phenomenon of code-switching, defined as the practice of alternating between two or more languages or linguistic varieties within a single conversation or speech. By examining its social, cultural, and linguistic dimensions, the study illustrates how code-switching transcends mere language exchange to serve as a strategic communicative tool. The analysis categorizes prominent types of switching: inter-sentential, intra-sentential, and tag- switching and demonstrates their practical application in both academic settings and informal social interactions. Drawing on various case studies, the article highlights how individuals utilize code-switching to negotiate social status, signal group identity, and express cultural heritage. Furthermore, it investigates the role of code- switching in digital discourse and cultural productions, such as film, where it enhances authenticity and reflects contemporary sociocultural realities. Ultimately, the research underscores that code-switching is a dynamic social practice that facilitates clarity, creativity, and the navigation of complex identities within multilingual environments.
